Senior Finance Officer

Key responsibilities include the following:

• Provides financial and business input to the formulation of Capex and Opex budgets within the various areas of responsibility in conjunction with other role players in OFMD
• Identify and adapt to changing Operational Situations in order to remain within budget
• Approval of invoices and/or quotes
• Monthly Balance Sheet Recons
• Review monthly rental recons
• Maintain rental schedule
• Fixed Assed Register Maintenance
• Process the department journals
• Attending to escalated payment queries
• Meeting with Contractors/Creditors personnel when necessary, to discuss and resolve outstanding account.
• Process and facilitate recoveries from other departments and assist with reconciliation if required
• Budgeting & Forecasting
• Capex & Opex Budget vs Actual Review
• Capex & Capex Budget Reviews
• Investigate monthly Management Accounts Variance
• Accounting & Controls
• Bulk Store bi-annual stocktaking
• Processing of cost recoveries
• Resolve all ‘not receipted’ purchase orders and ‘not closed’ work orders
• Management of staff as per the University’s HR Policies and Processes
• Effective management of Disciplinary Issues as the University’s Disciplinary Code/Code of Conduct, with the help of HR/ER Office
• Promote diversity and teamwork within your area of responsibility

Requirements:

• Grade 12
• BCom in Accounting
• At least 5 years’ Finance experience
• At least 2 years Supervisory Experience
Technical Competencies

• Knowledge and understanding of Accounting and Bookkeeping Principles
• Knowledge and understanding of Process Improvements
• Knowledge and understanding of Oracles/Accounting Systems
• Knowledge and understanding of Financial Audits
• Knowledge and understanding of Financial Processes & Procedures
• Working knowledge of IFRS advantageous
• MS Office – Advanced Excel
